The One I Want to Meet Is…
Last night, my brother Mike hosted the extended family for an early Thanksgiving dinner.
Between the main course and dessert, Mike asked this question: “If you could sit down with any celebrity — living or dead — and have a conversation, who would it be?”
Good question!
The first name that popped into my head: Eugene Schwartz.
But I didn’t want to say that because no one else at the table…
…except the relatives who read my emails or had already read my book would have any idea who he is.
And then I would have had to explain how Eugene Schwartz was one of the great copywriters of the 20th century…
…and how he never suffered from writer’s block…
…and how his approach to “assembling” copy has shaped and inspired the methods I teach to help clients create client-attracting content without getting stuck.
I figured that would have sucked the life out of the party.Ā
So last night, I answered “Brandi Carlile” (I love her music and think she’s an interesting person)…
…and I waited until this morning to reveal the truth:
Eugene Schwartz is the one I want to meet.
On page 31 of my bestselling book, Story Power Marketing, I write:
I know a lot of businesspeople who… think marketing is some magic art. They imagine they donāt have the creative flare to write great copy and tell powerful stories…
Thatās a myth… Marketing genius Dan Kennedy put it this way: āWhen I got into advertising, I thought it was a creative exercise. It is not that at all. It is a methodical exercise.ā Now THATās inspiring. Hereās whyā¦
Everyone can master a methodical exercise. You donāt need to be an āartiste.ā You donāt need some creative gift woven into your DNA. You just need to learn the method. Follow the steps. Deliver the goods. No hocus-pocus… No problem.
We āmere mortalsā can create āmagic.ā But we donāt conjure it from out of nowhere. We prepare. The Roman stoic philosopher Seneca said, āLuck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.ā Same goes for content creation. When we prepare, we can create great content. And it feels like magic.
Thatās how Eugene Schwartz did it. Thatās how I do it. Thatās how you can do it. Iāll show you how.
And then I unveil the framework I developed to turn content-creation from a magic art (beyond mere mortals) to a simple method (which anyone can master).
Why read the book and master the method? Because great content is what separates the unnoticed and ignored from the standouts who get hired.
When you create more and better informative, entertaining content — and you can do it consistently without getting stuck — you will stand out in your niche and get more clients.
